As part of the Piran Days of Architecture 2025, an exhibition of select photographs for the Brick Award will be opened on Friday, 21 November 2025, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sv. Donat Gallery, Prvomajski trg 13, Piran.
The exhibition is sponsored by wienerberger.
Already for two decades, wienerberger has organised and hosted the biennial international Brick Award, which highlights brick, the natural building material, and showcases how outstanding and contemporary brick architecture can be. Though hosted by wienerberger, the prize is independent and the use of wienerberger products is not a condition for eligibility.
The prize is awarded in five categories: single-family homes, larger residential buildings, office and industrial buildings, public buildings, and Outside the box, created for buildings or layouts which do not fall in any of the former categories. Contemporary designs and architectural concepts, innovative use of brick, and the quality of architecture in terms of aesthetics, form, and construction are evaluated by an international jury. There is special focus on sustainability, resilience to climate change, energy efficiency, affordable living, and pertinence of the project in regard to its purpose, typology, and cultural context. Every two years, the Brick Award winners are recognised in an award ceremony as well as showcased, alongside 50 nominees, in BRICK book.
For the exhibition Light and Shadow of Brick Structure, thirteen photographs have been chosen from among the hundred projects nominated for Brick Award 24 and Brick Award 26. In the light and shadow of brick structure, the photographs capture the dialogue between strength, openness, tradition, and innovation. They reveal the exceptional versatility of brick as a material of both construction and expression. With its warm presence in buildings, brick supports the people who live or work in them, or even just visit them.
